Holy Basil - Tulsi Seeds
Holy Basil - Tulsi Seeds
Tired of the blues? The gloom? The insecurities (of not having a steady supply of tea?) Well, this variety of aromatic tulsi can do at least one of those! Once it gets established, it will shoot up flowers consistently, so we like to pinch them and make a sachet with the dried flowers, we love drying out all parts of the plant and making it into tea. A creamy smooth taste, yummy. It will become bushy enough to be your neighborhood pollinator magnet.
- Best started indoors, one month before last frost (check almanac.com/gardening/frostdates) -Plant seeds 1/” deep in pots—in warmest area of your living situation, we suggest using a heat mat underneath the pots. -Germinates in 7-10 days - place in area with most light to prevent getting leggy when sprout - It is very frost sensitive, so plant outside at least two weeks after last frost. We have had tremendous success growing in large containers (at least 2 gallons) and once at least 4” tall -transplant outside in area with partial sun, full sun will be okay too. Plant about 2.5 ft apart with bat guano/compost/organic fertilizer. -About 60 days to maturity, enough time for your third eye to adjust to these beautiful purple flowers with darker than lime green leaves. PS—try starting your own cuttings by cutting off a branch—stripping the bottom leaves and sticking it in a glass of water. -We highly suggest pinching to the tops, where the you will see two leaves start to develop underneath, so it will become more bushier and slow down flowering.
