Pinyon Pine Seeds

$4.00

Pinyon Pine—a New Mexico classic with those edible nuts we all crave. Yes, these seeds do start with time! And you’ll some serious time to grow this slow two-needle pine about 10-15 years to get edible pine nuts but we love to keep them as a little bonsai and smile to our face that it can live for 600+ years—but just takes a day at a time.                                                                                                                            -We have had success growing these pinyon pines by scratching the half of the surface—such is life with sandpaper or rubbing it on cement to expose a lighter brown area and then soaking them in water for 48 hours before planting.                                                                                                                                - We like starting them inside before transplanting outside for better success. Plant nuts 1” deep in soft potting soil                                                                                                                                                                                              —I like to use heating mats for quicker and better germination numbers—but can be done without mats just expect about 45 for seeds to emerge and 25ish days on heating mat.—Keep soil moist, no need to fertilize most plants in seed/early seedling stage)                                                -You’ll be delighted to see a little tree emerge through the nut as it grows up. Minimum 10 seeds. Roughly 70% germination rate.
