We used to be all about transplanting squash/melons just because we are insecure and know it will succeed but feel it has limited growth by not direct seeding into the soil and let the roots weave through the ground rather than growing in a pot. We are going to direct seed these bad boys - and recommend you plant two seeds 1/2” deep in fluffy soil and pinch the weakest seedling. We’ve noticed squash bugs avoid seem to avoid these but always be proactive on controlling pests! Minimum 20 seeds.
